Poplar Museum | Missouri River Country

Poplar Museum

City Museum is housed in the old Tribal Jail built around 1920, now on the historic register. Frontier and Indian collections are displayed in the cells. We are open Monday through Friday, June 1st to Labor Day, 11:00am - 5:00pm. Emphasis is on the intricate beadwork and quilt work of our Sioux - Assiniboine people, which is also for sale. Admission is free. Visitors will notice the ceiling is covered inside with re-bar, after prisoners escaped one year through the original roof. Initials of some of the prisoners are scratched on bricks on the east wall.
