Winter is a magical time in Missouri River Country, as the green grasses of our prairies become covered with a soft blanket of snow. When the lakes freeze over, we fish them. When the trails freeze over, we break out our skis and snowshoes and explore them. Life doesn't slow down in Northeast Montana—in fact, winter marks a unique time to experience our communities and landscapes. Not to mention winter sunsets are extraordinarily beautiful.

Winter is an exceptionally beautiful time to visit, as long as you remember to recreate responsibly and come prepared. Whether you're ice fishing, snowmobiling or just going for a winter walk in the park, make sure you bring proper gear, leave no trace and stay safe.
